Why a power plant?
About Anemona Crisan
I am Anemona.
I was born in Bucharest in 1980 and have lived in Austria since 1990. I come from a family of artists and have been drawing and painting since childhood. This freedom to express myself from an early age and to be taken seriously allowed me to maintain an inner, heartfelt way of seeing, free from external rules and expectations. This primal perception continues to shape the essence of my work.
Later, I studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and professionalized my career. Over the past twenty years, my work has been exhibited in museums and galleries both in Austria and abroad. My work encompasses painting, large-scale art and architectural projects, sculptures, and installations.
For me, art is an initiatory path. Through it, I come to know myself – layer by layer, transition by transition. The insights come while painting: in breaking open, shedding skin, rearranging, condensing, illuminating. These processes shape my work and carry within them the energy of an alchemical path of discovery: the movement from the unknown toward one's own light, from the unconscious to self-knowledge.
My power plants are therefore more than just images. They are invitations, companions, and activations. Portals on your own journey to yourself.
